The Newseum, the only interactive news museum, opened in Arlington, Va., April 18, 1997. Funded by The Freedom Forum, a nonpartisan international foundation, the Newseum provided students, young and old, with priceless artifacts and today's front pages, a menagerie of machines and today's newsmakers in the TV studio, print and film archives and your very own video of you anchoring the news.
When the Newseum reopens in 2006, it will again be a place for Virginia advisers to rejuvenate. There will be more space for you and your students. The six-level, 215,000-square-foot interactive museum of news will contain three times as much exhibition space as the original facility in Arlington, Va.
The Newseum will be located at Pennsylvania Avenue and Sixth Street, N.W., between the U.S. Capitol and the White House. In addition to the Newseum and its support facilities, the 531,000-square-foot development will contain office space for Newseum and Freedom Forum staff, a 9,000-square-foot conference center, more than 30,000 square feet of retail space and approximately 100 condominiums. The Freedom Forum purchased the property from the District of Columbia in 2000.
